The Story

Hello everyone, welcome to my fundraising campaign! I'm Lay Yong, a 21-years old passionate youth! A quick intro about myself, I'm currently a second-year Electronic Engineering student at UTM. With the hope to get me more chance to explore the world outside and discover more about myself, I joined AIESEC, a youth-run organization that activates youth leadership through the volunteering exchange program.

I never know about food waste issues that can be so serious in our country until I joined AIESEC, knowing about one of our national projects, Clean Our Plate which is tackling this issue. It makes me curious, why this is the issue that we are concerning, but not others. So I did some Google search regarding food waste issues in Malaysia, and the data shown was really shocked me.

While people are deeply concerned about the problem of plastics slowly filling up the earth, do you know that it only constitutes 14% of the trash in landfills, whilst there is 49% of the waste actually from organic food waste?

And every day, there are 16688 tonnes of food waste produced by Malaysians, an amount that can easily feed 2.2 million people, 3 times a day!

I believe there are a lot of people out there like me not aware of how serious this issue is. It's time for us to reflect and get serious about this issue!
