 BEGINNING

Sunshine Cottage (as previously known) is a residential care facility run Late Mr. Edmund and Maria who came to Kulim in 1993. the Home was started in November 1993,in response for the dire needs of some poor children, who were disoriented and emotionally trou bled because of the poor economic, social and environmental conditions of the families. Boys and girls of different races have (been accepted in to the home, espe cially those who have not had ‘even break in life'. Some of them have been victims of other people’s anger and abuse. Others have been in trouble because of offending behavior and yet others are from broken homes. Physically-challenged persons especial ly those abandoned by their families or relatives have also been accepted.

Currently 60 persons under our care.

Categories:

(1) Nursery, pre-school and school-going children. From broken families, abandoned or neglected, or have other problems e.g.. learning disabilities, trauma etc.

(2)Adolescents between 12 yrs. to 16 yrs. Usually needing counselling and direction, skills and recreational facilities. For children & young per sons : -Food, shelter and clothing, education up to Secondary School, simple recreational facili ties, learning centre for students with severe learning disabilities; exposure programs, youth development programs, training and counsel ling

(3) Sick persons needing attention eg. bed sores, diabetic wounds etc.

(4)Physically-challenged persons.

(5) Elderly needing care and counseling (destitute, abandoned, lonely persons, or just those who cannot be accepted in their families because of lack of understanding OR no-one in the house to care for them. For the sick, physically challenged & elderly : - Consultation, Diagnos tic & Rehab Centre - with indoor & outdoor ex ercise facilities, physiotherapy, specialists visits, recreational hours, music therapy.
