The Lost Food Project

Environment

The Lost Food Project (TLFP) is Malaysia’s leading sustainability-led food rescue & food bank organization

We rescue quality, nutritious food and surplus goods from Malaysia's supply chain that would otherwise end up in landfill, and redistribute to those who need it most. Food waste adds to climate change. Producing and transporting food uses energy and releases carbon dioxide (CO2). When unused food is thrown away and rots in landfills, it releases methane, a gas that's even more harmful. Reducing food waste helps cut down on these harmful emissions and protects the planet. 4000 tonnes of edible food is thrown away each day in Malaysia and more than 70% of communities living in low cost housing (PPR) face food insecurity.

Food insecurity means not having consistent access to enough food to meet basic nutritional needs or not knowing when or where your next meal will come from. Hunger persists even in nations like ours, where development and resources exist but fail to reach the most vulnerable. To date: we support and provide food aid to 50 PPRs + 107 Charity organizations and this number is expected to grow in the next 2 years.

TLFP has rescued over:

8mil Kg of Food

Provided over 24mil meals &

Prevented over 21mil Kg of CO2 emissions

We believe Malaysia could be a country where food is no longer wasted, where millions at risk of undernourishment are fed with good quality food. Where everyone is well educated, informed and understands that throwing away good food is unacceptable when people are hungry and when our environment pays the price of the current vast overproduction.

We hope that such initiatives will not only raise awareness but also inspire more communities and businesses to actively participate in eradicating hunger. For every effort, no matter how small, contributes to the larger goal of ensuring no one is left behind.
