THE PROBLEM

Did you know that Malaysia’s food waste is enough to feed 12 million people with 3 meals per day?

Most importantly, during the pandemic, many issues arose such as food security that was caused by panic buying and economic trauma of B40 groups which subsequently led to hunger. The surprising fact is that Malaysians are not even aware of the severity of this situation, cause they simply do not know.

THE SOLUTION

Clean Our Plate (COP) Project would educate, reduce household food wastage and channel the excess food from being lost in the community to save B40 groups from hunger. The project consists of several components for both secondary school students and the local volunteers.

  1. Food Donation Drive

Contribute to the community by collecting surplus food from people around them

  1. Virtual Workshops

Volunteers will deliver virtual workshops that involved the participation of 4 schools which students aged 9 to 16 years old.
These workshops educate youth about the seriousness of food waste issues and some household food waste reduction or recycling tips to build up good consumer responsible consumption habits.

  1. Food Reduction in School

After the workshops are delivered to the students, the students will have to practice out or conduct activities for 2 weeks

  1. Home Composting

Household composting is our National initiative to implement the responsible consumption habit in our volunteers daily life by incorporating an easy and obvious action of composting for our volunteers

  1. Home Meal Planning

Home Meal Planning is an initiative begun to educate the younger generation on the importance to organize and coordinate their meals at home, ways to store food to reduce food wastage and their monthly budget to try and reduce financial strain.

THE IMPACT

  1. To increase awareness of student about food waste issue.
  2. Behavioral change of student related to tackling food waste issue.
  3. To reduce food waste in schhol and get these students practicing it in their daily lifestyle.

  • 946 students involved in workshops and training camps
  • 9 people committed in reducing food waste
  • 33.65kg of food regenerated
  • 7.89 kg of food saved from being wasted

About the Organization/Project behind this Campaign

AIESEC in UKM

Our Identity

AIESEC is the world's largest non-profit youth-run organization. It is an international non-governmental not-for-profit organisation that provides young people with leadership development, cross-cultural global internships, and volunteer exchange experiences across the globe. The organization focuses on empowering young leaders to make a positive impact on society through actions.

Our Vision

AIESEC strives for Peace and Fulfilment of Humankind's Potential as an organisation.

In today’s context, ‘Peace’ does not necessarily mean only avoiding war. Peace can symbolise a world that does not have conflicts that arise from cultural, religious, or other aspects of differences in humanity. Peace can also symbolise being in harmony with yourself. AIESEC strives to build a world where people can work towards their own understanding of peace while respecting and understanding the views of others.

Through Fulfilment of Humankind’s Potential, AIESEC strives for a world where people can be the best version of themselves.

Our Action

We place our confidence in youth because they have the passion, dynamism and entrepreneurial spirit that are needed to shape the future. They have the responsibility to improve tomorrow by choosing who they will be today. Hence, AIESEC is a platform for young leaders to run projects that are aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to ensure its relevance to the local community needs. We aim to be part of the solution for a betterment of Malaysia.
