Educate to Elevate: A Brighter Future for Orang Asli Students.

THE PROBLEM

Many Orang Asli students in Kg. Orang Asli Serendah struggle with reading and writing in Bahasa Malaysia (BM) and English (Eng), as these languages are not their native tongues spoken at home. Consequently, they face difficulties in their education, as they must learn these languages to comprehend the other subjects taught in school (math &. science). The lack of proficiency in these languages may cause them to struggle to keep up with their peers, leading to falling behind in their studies. As a result, some of them end up dropping out of school.

THE SOLUTION

Currently, we have teachers who have certifications in Early Education and are passionate about education, and have experience teaching in the community. These teachers are providing valuable language classes and homework help to the students overcome the language barriers they face in school.

We have begun our pilot project with 4-hours tutoring classes on the weekends for 20 students(aged 6-15) in Kg. Orang Asli Serendah, which is held in the community library in the village. Classes are split to pre-school and primary school levels, and focuses on improving the English and BM proficiency of the students. Teachers will also give additional support to students who need help with their homework. We have contributed RM2000 for purchase of class materials such as reference books, white board, stationeries and printer to kick start the classes.  

Each teacher is currently paid RM100 per week, which is a reasonable amount for their time and effort. This amounts to RM800-RM1000 per month to run this project. The total needed to run this project for a year is RM10,000. To continue supporting these teachers and helping Orang Asli students grow, we cannot do this alone and need your help.

With your support, we hope to create a sustainable and supportive learning environment for Orang Asli students in Serendah Village.

THE IMPACT

The impact of these projects is;

1. Improved Academic Performance: By providing language classes and homework help, Orang Asli students can improve their understanding of other core subjects taught in school (ex:math & science). This can help them to perform better in exams, and develop the skills they need complete SPM and even to pursue higher education.

2. Increased Confidence: With the support of local teachers, Orang Asli students can feel more confident in their ability to learn and succeed in school.

Goal Breakdown

Goal 1 - Provide allowance for 2 teachers (RM400 per month for each teacher for 12 months). Amount Needed: MYR9,600.00

Goal 2 - NGOhub Service Fees Charge (6.5%). Amount Needed: MYR624.00
