THE PROBLEM

As of March 2018, there are 155, 880 refugees in Malaysia registered with the UNHCR. Of them, 1 in 4 are children under 18. Because Malaysia has not ratified the 1951 UN Convention on the status of refugees, children of refugees and asylum-seekers are denied access to government education.

The Malaysian Social Research Institute provides education for 380 refugee students. Due to limited resources and capacity MSRI School is unable to accommodate the 200+ students on the waitlist.

THE SOLUTION

At the end of 2017 we decided to operate the school in two sessions: morning and afternoon. With this new system we hope to reach an enrollment of 400 students. Having two sessions means longer hours for teachers, as well as increased use of utilities.

To continue providing education and 1 meal a day to each student, MSRI is in need of support. Our goal is to raise funds for teachers' salaries, rent, utilities and learning materials for the students.

THE IMPACT

What can your donation provide?

RM20 can provide one student with meal every school day for a month.

RM50 can cover the cost of textbooks and printing materials for one student for 2 months.

RM250 can cover the cost of electricity and water at the school for a month.

RM400 can employ a teacher for a month.
