My name is Nurshaffiyah binti Shahrizal and I am 5 years old. I was born with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy- GMFCS V. This means that my muscles are stiff and weak; it is very difficult for me to perform motor functions on my own and I am unable to develop cognitive skills. I require round-the-clock care, but my parents say I am easy to take care of. I spend most of the day with my mom and my two younger siblings. My mother feeds me at mealtimes since I cannot move on my own. Because of my condition, I cannot speak or see, but I can hear my family when they talk to me. I love going out with my family and having fun with everyone!
I have gone through many rehabilitation treatments at the University of Malaya Medical Center, but in the long run, my parents are worried that my sedentary lifestyle could leave me vulnerable to problems with posture, digestion, and hip instability.
It would help my parents so much if we could obtain special equipment to assist in my care. We are looking to purchase a medium-sized standing frame with an attached table. This apparatus will aid in my therapy and avoid further complicating my physical condition. I want to be able to stand on my own one day- this standing frame will help me achieve this in the long term by training my muscles to be strong. I will also benefit from the decreased risk of osteoporosis and decubitus ulcers associated with regular use of the standing frame and AFO brace.
I am hoping to improve my motor function and increase my quality of life. My parents will have peace of mind if we could get help to purchase the expensive equipment.
The funds that we collect will be used to purchase the following items :
Goal 1 - Standing frame with table (medium). Amount Needed: MYR3,808.00
Goal 2 - Custom-made AFO brace (2 units). Amount Needed: MYR1,385.00
