WHAT

1. Government has implemented STEM into the education system. This initiative allows students to gain knowledge across subjects by creating chance for students to explore in different field. This initiative also encourages students to think critically and develop themselves. Our volunteering projects will be focusing on the ‘T’ of STEM. We provide a secure learning platform for students to develop themselves and gain technology literacy.

2. In SPM 2011, 23% of students failed English language as compared to 9% for Bahasa Malaysia. Comparing the English language paper standard of SPM to GCE O-Level, 50% of Form 5 students would have failed to achieve the minimum standard of Cambridge grading scale. In a 2011 Jobstreet survey, poor command of English language was among the top five reasons why fresh graduates were rejected after job interviews. Thus, this project will be conducting in English as we hope to improve English speaking among students at the same time.

HOW

Train the Trainer

1. Recruit youth as a volunteer;
2. Invite professionals to train the volunteers about public speaking, communication skills, self-development skills and a way of conducting a workshop.

Workshop

1. Volunteers conduct workshops for students around 14-16 y/o, who lack are lacking opportunities or practical experience to learn.
2. Fun Activities and games planned by volunteers to increasing student’s interest in learning.
3. Provide hands on learning 
4. Creating a safe environment to encourage students to voice out their opinions without any judgment.

WHY

1. To empower students in Malaysia to develop technology literacy
2. To instil confidence in students to practice English communication to express their ideas.
3. To create awareness about the importance of learning.

Goal Breakdown

1. Project materials fees and equipment - MYR 400

• Volunteers create and deliver learning workshop to students

• Invite relate company to deliver sessions to volunteer for training

3. Welcoming, farewell party & cultural showcasing events - MYR 500

4. Transportation- MYR1000

• Airport pickup, the route between school and volunteers hostel

• Accommodation fees for volunteers
