Each year more than 100,000 Malaysians with serious health conditions such as cancer and organ failure require medical support to ensure they do not suffer pain and other debilitating symptoms as a result of their condition. With the imposition of the RMCO and the ongoing threat of the Covid-19 virus, many of these patients are encouraged to stay home to stay safe. But what happens when these patients develop pain and other symptoms and become very ill?
Hospis Malaysia provides palliative care to treat these patients’ pain and other physical and psychological symptoms at home. Our doctors and nurses make regular home visits to assess and treat the patient, and provide a 24-hour emergency service to support these patients’ needs. Medical equipment such as hospital beds and oxygen concentrators will be provided to support the patient when required.
Palliative care treats the patient and how the disease is affecting the patients. Because the pain and other suffering of these patients can be severe and will affect the quality of life of the patient and their loved ones if left untreated, Hospis Malaysia believes strongly that all patients in need of palliative care should be able to access it at anytime. As such our services, including medication, medical supplies and medical equipment are provided free of charge.
