Provide Office Equipment for Orang Asli Village

THE PROBLEM

I am Encik Angah Bin Aluej, a resident of RPS Kemar Located in the Gerik area. I hold the position of Secretary of the RPS Kemar Gerik Indigenous Community Management Council. 

RPS Kemar is located close to Kelantan. The distance from Sungai Siput town is approximately four hours by motorcycle via logging road, whereas from Gerik town it takes about one day for a round trip.

In addition to the main road, RPS Kemar Residents can take an hour’s boat ride on the lake as a shortcut and then either travel by bus for 40 minutes, or rent a van for an hour’s ride from Trojan to Gerik Town.

For now, the villagers have to commute to the city to utilise photocopy services and other business equipment. Travel costs to Gerik town are RM60 to and from.

THE SOLUTION

To solve this problem, we want to provide a complete range of office tools and other facilities for the enjoyment of the community at RPS Kemar, and also for those who work to address the problems of the community at RPS Kemar.

We plan to convert a vacant house into an office space to house the equipment that the residents can use. This house was built in the 90’s intended to be used as a space for the community, but because we lacked the funds, we have not been able to purchase items for the space and it has since fallen into a dilapidated state.

THE IMPACT

When the office space is ready, it will facilitate the dealings of local residents with outsiders, government officials, and others. Residents and members of the RPS Kemar Gerik Indigenous Community Management Council will not need to travel to Gerik town to conduct their business affairs.  This will bring great benefit and convenience to all the village residents.
