Drug abuse is a bane in every society and this problem is very much alive in our beloved country, Malaysia. Various measures have been taken to combat this menacing issue, but who knew, part of the solution would be in spreading positivity through music?
For the past 10 years, Drug Free Malaysia (DFM, formerly Drug Free Youth Malaysia) has been empowering youth with straight-edge culture by providing a safe haven for them to explore music and lifestyle sports such as skateboarding.
To date, DFM has reached out to almost 500,000 youth in Malaysia through music and lifestyle sports activities. DFM has also organised more than 200 events and visited almost 300 schools to promote the drug-free lifestyle.
In recognition of their efforts, DFM has been invited to perform their original song, ‘Drug Free Anthem’ at the International Day Against Drug Abuse convention organised by the United Nations in New York this 29th of May, 2020.
At the convention, DFM’s President, Khai Aziz will receive the ‘Drug Free Heroes’ award for his heroic efforts in combating drug abuse in the country.
The DFM band will be the first Malaysian NGO band in history to perform at the prestigious United Nations HQ.
The ‘Drug Free Anthem’ was written collectively by DFM has been chosen as the anthem for Drug Free World and will be played all over the world.
To ensure that all of DFM’s band members are given the opportunity to perform in New York this May, we seek the support from the public, so that we are able to raise enough funds to take our band to New York.
In conjunction with our 10-year-anniversary, we are launching this crowdfunding campaign to raise RM 30,000 for DFM’s ‘Road To New York’. The funds will be used towards travel expenses and accommodation for our five band members.
At the convention and throughout this campaign, we will learn new methods and strategies on how to stop drugs from getting to youth. This international recognition will boost our members to work even harder in fighting drug abuse in the country.
During the ceremony, DFM along with our partners PEMADAM Negeri Selangor, under the Patronage of YAB Dato' Seri Amirudin Bin Shari and under the leadership of En Daing Muhammad Reduan bin Bachok, Honourary Secretary of PEMADAM Negeri Selangor, will be given the opportunity to exchange ideas from various Drug Free organisations all over the world that will be attending the event.
The DFM band will also be performing at the Drug Free Heroes Award Gala on the 27th of May, Drug Free basketball tournament on the 28th of May and at the United Nations HQ the following day.
Join DFM to raise funds for the Road To New York campaign and be part of the movement to revolutionise the way Malaysia combat drug abuse in Malaysia!
