Spinal Brace for Rizleenson

THE PROBLEM

Hello, my name is Rizleenson bin Paulus. I am 13 years old. I was born in rural Puru Paitan, Sabah. My father works as a farmer while my mom is a housewife; she takes care of me and my two younger siblings at home. Unlike my brother and sister, I was born with Congenital Kyphoscoliosis, and later on I was diagnosed with Global Developmental Delay. This means I cannot walk, listen, or eat well. I underwent a spinal surgery at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Sabah, but because of my severe condition I regularly need to be monitored at the hospital.

This routine has become difficult for my family to maintain because the hospital is a long distance from our home. Sometimes we cannot afford the cost of travel. I also have to wear a special spinal brace the hospital makes to help me walk. Wearing the brace helps keep my spinal curve from progressing. Without it I cannot even move on my own. 

My father works hard to afford my medical care and support our family at the same time, but my treatment is very expensive. Every now and then my parents go a full day without eating to prioritise my health. I love my family so much and I am very fortunate to have them. I know they only want what’s best for me, so I want to help them out any way I can!

THE SOLUTION

I am hoping for your help to raise funds. The distance to and from Paitan Bridge and Queen Elizabeth Hospital is about 253 kilometers. If we could raise RM 2,600.00 to rent a car, my family would not have to worry so much about our regular transportation costs to the hospital. A further RM 6,000.00 could buy me three units of a custom spinal brace that the hospital will make.
