A town like Penang Island are always in shortages of ambulances especially when many emergency calls are coming in at the same time. Imagine a state with 1.77 million population, every hour or less there will be a distress call, being it a road accident or medical emergencies. That is also only on normal days, worst even on holidays or festival seasons where tourists will be coming in to Penang from all over the places. With about 20 ambulances from the island, whether from General Hospitals or NGOs, the numbers will not be enough to cater to all the population needs, as we face many non-emergency calls using the emergency numbers such as fever, diarrhea, headache, vomit, etc. These cases already taken 1/3 of the ambulances service fleet, whereby they use the 999 Hotline to call for ambulance and this can delay the real emergency case patients whereby the patients needs the service at the utmost priority..
We at Penang First Responder, are trained emergency responders & pre-hospital care ambulance service certified and importantly we are not private services but we are non profit NGO. We are responding to emergency calls activated by some hospitals and publc emergency response team. Due to the demand that kept growing, we are running non-stop with only 1 ambulance. We seek fund to pay the mojor service works on our ambulance to cater the needs especially on the southern part of the island. Sometimes a distress call have to wait for 30 minutes before an ambulance can reach. .
With the new ambulance, we are able to support emergency calls while we do community service of patient transfer in the morning in support of the low income community, disable people with no transport and help them by transporting to hospitals for medical attention or follow up. Ultimately we are serving back to the community with no charge.

- we are a NGO of volunteers consist of nurses, medics, doctors, first aiders, provides free service and standby at night/off working hours operating and response to emergency calls, such as road accidents, medical emergencies at home or roadside. We operate with our own personal vehicle and responded to scene upon triggerered either by public phone calls or General Hospitals/Private Hospitals. We are linked to General Hospitals contact centre, whereby emergency calls will trigger to our team in some geographical areas for faster response time. Our medical equipments are mostly purchased by our own volunteers and some from the members of the public that believe in us. Therefore we hope that we can support the public with an ambulance for faster response time.
