THE PROBLEM

A significant number of Aboriginal people in Enggang River do not access to proper education. This put them at a significant disadvantage right from the beginning. Unlike a lot of the children who are able to read, write and count, most of these indigenous children enter primary school without any basic knowledge in reading, writing and mathematics skills. It is not surprising that many of them fail to catch up with the national school syllabus and eventually drop out from school. Without any empowerment provided, many aboriginal kids in Enggang River will continue to be trapped within the vicious cycle of poverty and struggle to be self-sustained. One of the striking fact that surprises us is 60% of this population has never associate themselves with the outside world, they remain less fluent in English and Bahasa Malaysia.

THE SOLUTION

In response to the challenges faced by the indigenous people in Enggang River with regards to education, I’m determined to empower my own community by giving them a greater access to education. In order to equip a classroom with proper facilities, I set up a fundraising campaign so that our teachers who have strong desire to educate the younger generation can provide a better learning environment. The facilities include a classroom computer, a HP Printer and a Hisense Refrigerator.
A classroom computer equipped with printer enables our tutors prepare and craft better teaching materials so that all our children who attend the classes on a regular basis can absorb the knowledge in a more inspiring way.
I have faith that all the teaching aids through this fundraising initiative can build a better foundation for my community.

THE IMPACT

The fund raised may be small. However, it aims to empower my community by giving the younger generation a greater access to education. We hope this campaign creates more public awareness that our indigenous teachers in Enggang River have put a lot of efforts in running the class on a regular basis. We have a strong faith that all fundraising and awareness efforts can inspire more people from other social circles to work together with us and increase our capacity in empowering our community. This empowerment initiative will definitely provide better future prospects for our children.
