PERKAYA's Computer Class

THE PROBLEM

At this point, we know that technology is very important for us to learn and grow rapidly. Even technology becomes more affordable, and internet access happens to be more ubiquitous, a “digital divide” between rich and poor remains significant. This is particularly true for 100 children in our school i.e., PERKAYA. When it comes to education, the far-reaching consequences can especially be felt by us, the operators and educators of the school. All our children are from very low-income or broken families, some of them hold no national identity. We want to teach our kids from a young age to use and recognize the right way. Given these kids from different backgrounds and there is no opportunity for them to learn the technology, this hinders them from learning necessary life skills that are crucial to success in society nowadays. At the present time, we face the difficulties of having no facilities like Computers for their basic learning.

THE SOLUTION

The purpose of this class is to teach these underprivileged students how to use the computer from the basics in the right way. In order to allow these children from scratch, we will try to raise fund for 5 low cost computers. We want to give an early exposure to these children so they do not miss to learn all these powerful technological skills in a constantly evolving environment. Once the capital is successfully raised, we will set up a classroom equipped with 5 computers. Some of the primary computer curriculum set will be delivered by the instructors to these kids include Microsoft Office, Digital Presentation, Google, etc.

THE IMPACT

The impact of this computer class we expect kids to better understand and know how to use current technology facilities in the right way and no more in the wrong direction. We believe that this meaning project-based computing activities for these kids can be really impactful!

There are some real impacts from this computer class. The kids can

• operate a computing device competently and safely.
• express a positive attitude towards technology.
• demonstrate proper keyboarding techniques.
• learn how to recognize the influence of technology on daily life.
• learn how to communicate and present information in a powerpoint slideshow.
• produce basic illustrations using digital drawing tools such as painter.
• create and edit written work using Microsoft office.
• Learn to collaborate with others digitally.
