THE PROBLEM

Located in the village of Batu Arang, about 45 minutes from Kuala Lumpur, Positive Living Community provides shelter, care and support to more than 60 HIV positive men; who are especially vulnerable due to AIDS, drug addiction or are physically or mentally handicapped due to their illness.

We are an interfaith non-profit organisation that relies on volunteer staff and caregivers, and the goodwill of the public for its daily operation. For years, we have managed to survive on the perseverance and dedication of our team of volunteers. However, we cannot boast the same about our beloved van.

The van which was donated to us 20 years ago, has reached the last stages of its life and flounders to uphold its track record for being the most faithful, accommodating and versatile van in the world!

Our poor van is on the road for an average of 2 to 3 hours daily, just for ferrying our patients for their hospital trips. We also use it for our marketing trips, as well as running all sorts of errands. It used to be perfect for our patients' needs,  but now we are sad to say that it is a source of discomfort and insecurity for our patients due to its aged and poor condition on the road. Leave alone the fact that the van sometimes doubles up as an ambulance in times of emergency, the van's capacity is insufficient for our current needs, and it keeps breaking down on us, leaving us with escalating maintenance and repair fees.

THE SOLUTION

We are very grateful for the countless hospital appointments and emergency medical trips that our van has facilitated, and will continue to put our old van to good use for our marketing trips and running errands. However, we need a new van solely dedicated for our hospital trips.

How the funs will be used:

  • Hyundai 11 seater van = RM 170,000

THE IMPACT

A new hospital van would greatly improve the quality of service that we can provide to our residents who need to travel in comfort, more than anybody else.

Help us improve the quality of transportation for HIV/AIDS patients who need to travel in comfort more than anybody else.
