Every child has a right to healthcare.
Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) are the most common birth defect - affecting 1 in 100 babies. CHDs are among the top causes of infant mortality worldwide. Some common examples are septal defects (aka "hole in the heart"), leaky valves or malformed heart chambers. In most cases, the cause of CHD is unknown - it cannot be prevented by vaccination or improved nutrition.
In Malaysia, nearly 5,000 babies are born with a CHD every year. Of these, 3,000 will need to undergo surgery at least once - some will require life-saving surgery before their first year of life, and some will require surgery more than once in their lifetime.
Advancements in medicine and surgical techniques have meant that now more and more babies born with CHD live to adulthood. However, 9 out of 10 children in the world live in an area without access to necessary heart care - leading to children dying preventable deaths.
Malaysia faces a few challenges in providing congenital heart care. Some major ones are unbearably long waiting lists in government hospitals, a limited number of heart care centres and specialists per population and expensive treatment and surgical costs.
Congenital Heart Surgery for All is our flagship program that provides funding for surgery and treatment costs for patients with congenital heart disease from underprivileged families in
Malaysia.
Through partnerships with cardiac care centres, we are able to expediate life-saving surgeries for selected patients from B40 families at reputable private hospitals in the country.
Not only are we able to provide life-saving care for the people who need it most, our program also allows us to empower the local paediatric heart care systems within the country – for
the benefit of all.
Thanks to donations from generous companies and individuals, since 2020 we have managed to fund surgeries for six patients from underprivileged families, with costs totalling more than RM100,000.
We are always working towards expanding our program even further – because no one should be left behind. To do that, we are going to need your help.
We mean it when we say our program is Congenital Heart Surgery for ALL.
Through your donation, we will be able to fund congenital heart surgeries for even more children in Malaysia. Our aim is that every child in Malaysia who requires a congenital heart surgery can receive timely, appropriate care - regardless of financial status, because health care is a human right.
Congenital heart surgery is not a luxury treatment - it is life-saving care, care that improves quality of life. All children deserve a right to congenital heart care - the right to grow healthy, full lives; the right to reach their full potential to become people who can contribute freely to society.

WHAT ARE CONGENITAL HEART DEFECTS?
Congenital heart defects are the most common birth defect in the world, affecting every 1 in 100 births. Children with congenital heart defects are born with a heart that is structurally different from others. The most common example of congenital heart defects are septal defects, also known as a "hole in the heart", but there are many different kinds. Congenital heart defects cause the heart to be unable to function as it should and puts the child's health in jeopardy.
These children will require surgery at some point in their life to improve their quality of life, and in many cases - surgery is vital to ensure that they can live to their first birthday.
In Malaysia, it's estimated that 5,000 babies are born with congenital heart defects every year. Of these, 3,000 babies will require surgery at least once in their lifetime to save their lives. Unfortunately, due to lack of resources and extremely long waiting lists, some children will never get their chance at life-saving surgery.
CONGENITAL HEART SURGERY FOR ALL
Our main program, Congenital Heart Surgery for All, aims to fund congenital heart surgeries for patients from underprivileged families. Since our program began in 2020, we have spent more than RM100,000 to support this cause and have fully funded the surgeries of 6 patients from underprivileged families.
This year, we hope to expand our services across Malaysia and help more children get the care that they need.
