Thank you for your support towards our crowdfunding campaign. Considering the uncertain times and not knowing when the national COVID cases will go down, we are now planning to carry out the program virtually. The funds that were initially allocated towards rental of a seminar room will be used to channel food aid to participants of this program.
There is consensus that the education of children is one of the key vehicles engendering the development of economies (UNESCO, 2009). We might see that in Malaysia, there is a huge gap of education between rural and urban schooling. According to (Hassan & Rasiah, 2011), the distribution of resources and its consequent effects on rural-urban schooling performance has remained a serious issue in most developing countries.
This problem needs to be undertaken because as we only focus on the urban school, the gap between rural and urban school will become more serious and the students from rural school will be unprivileged. Besides that, we also need to be undertaken this problem to prevent them to choose the wrong path in their life.
In order to overcome this problem, BGS UUM Chapter in collaboration with Gooddeeds Alor Setar would like to conduct a programme named BGS Give Back: What’s Next after SPM, a workshop to provide exposure to underprivileged SPM candidates in Kedah. This programme will guide the students about their pathway after SPM, financial assistance for tertiary education, career workshop and resume clinic. We believe our program will help the student to have better experience for their future and the students from rural school also have the privileged in pursuing higher education.
Recruitment of participants for the program is carried out with the help of the Kedah Department of Education’s official portal as well as through the schools in the Kedah area.
We are aware that students from rural areas tend to be involved in drugs and lack interest in furthering their studies to higher education. Through our programme, we hope that the participants can develop a clear ambition and dreams for their future. We also provide a lot of fruitful session that will benefit all the participants attended.
This program will be run virtually and will benefit 50 students from underserved communities in Kedah. They will be guided on:
Goal 1 - Food . Amount Needed: MYRRM 2,340
Goal 2 - Seminar room. Amount Needed: MYRRM 1,000
Goal 3 - Sourvenir and Petrol. Amount Needed: MYRRM 1,660
Raised of MYR 5,000.00 target.
