THE PROBLEM

The Orang Asli Communities especially the elders lie in RPS Kemar are currently facing the risk of malnutrition due to shortage of food supplies in the village. The challenging geographical location (2 hours by motorbike on gravel roads, 1 hour by boat across Temenggor Lake) has resulted in difficulties to reach out to the nearest town in Gerik, Perak. Plus, the village is not reachable by land. Hence, bad weather and high water tides also make it harder for them to travel to buy their daily necessities. Often times, the Orang Asli risk their lives by hunting in the jungle for days just to bring food to the table. The task requires them to be fit and aware of the dangers around. This has make it tougher for the elderly to support their families since they are incapable of travelling far and hunting for food. With the rainy season forecasted to end in March, assistance such as foods and other necessities are needed by them as additional supplies to sustain their lives for one month when the weather gone bad.

THE SOLUTION

100 sets foodbox for elderly people in RPS Kemar to lighten their burden. Each one of the Foodbox has 18 items which the amount RM114.00.

THE IMPACT

The food supply serves as an ‘emergency kit’ to sustain the elderlies’ lives for at least one month when the weather gone bad. It will also  help to make sure that they will eat sufficient food for their body even when they cannot travel to town. With this help, it will also make it easier for them to set up a more stable life by taking care of their eating habits and better conditions.
